Spam is usually an undesired message, which is sent in bulk
numbers.
It is quite often referred
to as Unsolicited Bulk Email, due to the fact that the two most common
conditions for email to be considered Spam are:
·
Unsolicited messages ( with no upfront receiver
consent )
·
Sent in Bulk, as a part of a larger volume of
identical or similar messages
Other common reasons for
identifying Spam practices are:
·
The sender email, domain and routing information
are incorrect
·
The email subject is deceiving
·
There is no unsubscribe option
Based on the widely accepted
Internet Service Providers Acceptable
Use Policies, Spam is when:
“Posting five (5) or more messages similar in content to Usenet or
other newsgroups, listservs, forums, e-mail mailing lists or other similar
groups or lists;”
and/or
“Posting to any Usenet or other newsgroups, listservs, forums,
e-mailing lists or other similar groups or lists articles which are off-topic”
and/or
“Sending unsolicited e-mailings (including, without limitation,
commercial advertising and informational announcements) to more than five (5)
e-mail addresses within a forty-eight (48) hour period, if such unsolicited
e-mailings could reasonably be expected to or do in fact provoke complaints;”
Spam is a subject of varying
